Pavel Novotný: The master and the procedure and a small flat and primeval councils

Born in 1976 in Liberec. A poet, essayist, translator, and university lecturer. He studied teacher training with a focus on German and Czech at the Technical University of Liberec, and later philology at Palacký University in Olomouc. He is currently the Head of the Department of German at the University of Liberec. He translates from German (H. M. Enzensberger, G. Rühm, K. Schwitters, the Wiener Gruppe, among others), collaborates with radio and theatre, and writes poetry. He is the author of acclaimed poetry collections Mistr (The Master, 2025), Babička (Grandmother, 2024), Prarady a jiné písně (Primeval Councils and Other Songs, 2023), Procedura (The Procedure, 2022), Dědek (Grandfather, 2020), and Zápisky z garsonky (Notes from a Small Flat, 2020). He specialises academically in experimental poetry, as reflected in his monograph Česká fonická poezie. Auditivní tvorba jako součást literárního experimentu 60.
