Miroslav Černý: With wisdom to the edge of the world

Born in 1977 in Opava. At the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, he studied English and Czech; he subsequently studied linguistics, literature, and anthropology at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. Today, he lectures in English and American studies at the University of Ostrava. A literary historian, poet, and translator, as well as a traveller and researcher. In his free time, he (in his own words) devotes himself to Japanese swordsmanship, bushcraft, and polar philately. In 2021, he was awarded the Order of the Eagle of Georgia for merit. He has drawn particular attention with his collections of texts on the boundary between poetry and prose, such as Finisterre (2026), Sentimentální pijáci (Sentimental Drinkers, 2025), Moudrost stezky (The Wisdom of the Path, 2024), Proleženiny (Bedsores, 2022), and Zoologická zahrada boha Ra (The Zoo of the God Ra, 2021).
