Mie Roesdahl & Naussúnguaq Lyberth: Reborn through anger at historical injustice

Mie Roesdahl is a Danish author and human rights expert. Her father lived in the High Arctic in Qaanaaq (Thule), in the now-abandoned mining settlement of Maarmorilik, and in Nuuk. Mie spent a lot of time there and the experience shaped her writing profoundly. Later, she worked in various parts of Greenland and became involved in peacebuilding and humanitarian projects abroad, including in Nepal. In 2016, she founded the organization Conducive Space for Peace, which focuses on equality and postcolonial reconciliation. She made her literary debut with Brutal Skønhed (Brutal Beauty, 1993, published under the name Mie Graversen), an account of a cross-country skiing expedition across Greenland. Thirty years later, she returned to fiction with the novel Urkraft (Primal Force, 2025), which explores the legacy of colonialism and the transformative power of change.
