Magdaléna Platzová: Aptly put

Born in 1972 in Prague. A journalist, translator, author of plays and children’s books, and a prose writer. She studied philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. She worked as an assistant to the director Petr Lébl at the Theatre Na zábradlí and as an editor of Literární noviny. She has published more than a dozen books, including Anarchista (The Anarchist, 2013), Máme holý ruce (We Have Bare Hands, 2019), Život po Kafkovi (Life After Kafka, 2022), and Fáze jedné ženy (Phases of a Woman, 2025).  Speaking about her latest book in an interview for Deník N, she said: “… for women, the menopause is a chapter of its own. It is also usually regarded as something almost shameful, and yet it is a very interesting and rich period, aptly captured by the Czech word “přechod” which emphasises its transformative dimension.”
