Dora Kaprálová: The hypnosis of the year

Born in 1975 in Brno. A journalist, prose writer, editor, and author of plays as well as radio and television documentaries. She studied radio and television dramaturgy and screenwriting at the Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. She has been living in Berlin since 2007. She has published a book-length interview with Květa Legátová Návraty do Želar (Returns to Želary, 2005), edited a collection of poetry about Brno Kdybych vstoupil do Kauflandu, byl bych v Brně (If I Entered Kaufland, I Would Be in Brno, 2009), written a children’s book Pan Nikdo a bílá tma (Mr Nobody and the White Darkness, 2022), and prose for adults: Zimní kniha o lásce (A Winter Book About Love, 2014), Berlínský zápisník (A Berlin Notebook, 2016), Ostrovy (Islands, 2019), Utrpení a jiné žánry (Suffering and Other Genres, 2022), and Mariborská hypnóza (The Maribor Hypnosis, 2025). For her latest book, she received two Magnesia Litera awards (for Prose and Book of the Year) as well as the European Union Prize for Literature.
