Alžběta Stančáková: Usually slightly perplexed

Born in 1992 in Prague. A poet, prose writer, playwright, journalist, and translator. She studied Czech studies and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. She collaborates with Czech Television. For her debut Co s tím (What to Do with It, 2014), she received the Jiří Orten Prize. She has also published Čačak (2022) and Tvoje tvář s hebkým odrazem (Your Face with a Soft Reflection, 2025). “As a rule, we encounter fragments of human fates, micro-stories or situations that we enter without hesitation and soon leave again, usually slightly perplexed, taken aback, or with a sense of something left unresolved. These impressions are often intensified by the presence of absurd motifs, sometimes almost Kafkaesque,” wrote the website ČT Art about her latest book.
