Wojciech Kuczok: Poems and Caves, Smell and Scars
Novelist, poet, screenwriter, film critic. Born in Chorzow in 1972, graduated from the Silesian University in Katowice. In the 90´s he belonged to one of the Silesian poetry groups, called Na Dziko. In 2003 he published his most famous novel Gnój (Smell, translated into Czech by Barbora Gregorová in 2009), which won the prestigious literary awards Paszport Polityki and Nike Award. He also wrote the screenplay for the film of Magdalena Piekorz - Pręgi (Scars), which won the 2004 grand prize at the Film Festival in Gdynia and was sent for Poland to compete for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Wojciech Kuczok is the author of 11 books, a speleologist and a discoverer of Dująca and Twarda caves in southern Poland.

Quo vadis, mě se ptáte? Směřuji k posvátnosti, samozřejmě. Literatura je svátkem jazyka, a tedy každý verš světím bez ohledu na to, čemu jej věnuji. O světě přemýšlím světsky, ale mluvím o něm svatě přesvědčen, ve světle literatury si jej sobě nahlas vysvětluji. Jdu do nebe, moji milí. Jdu do nebe; když se ptáte, tedy vězte a jezte z toho všichni, dokud se mi chce sepisovat hřích po hříchu, na výbornou.
