Hvorecký On the Danube, Hvorecký in America
Journalist, playwright and novelist, for whom „writing is […] a way of perceiving and understanding the world“. He was born on 19th. December 1976 in Bratislava, he studied Esthetics at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and he works in advertising. He has written seven prosaic books, three of which were translated into Czech: Lovci a sběrači (Hunters and Gatherers, 2003), Silný pocit čistoty (Strong Sense of Cleanliness, 2006) and Plyš ( Plush, 2006). He comments on his latest novel: „The Danube is an epic river, full of stories. I was working on ships for two seasons and I cruised it up and down from Germany to Romania many times.I met hundreds of Americans and I listened to their stories, I discussed with them, I was getting new inspiration. It was a good school, though it was hard.“
